#pblitchat was the inspired idea of Karen Collum (@KarenCollum) and Kathryn Apel (@KatApel), two Australian children’s authors with a passion for picture books. However in 2012 life, writing/work and family commitments necessitated Karen’s withdrawal in April, and Kat’s in December.
The chats are now convened by Chloe Killen (@ChloeKillen) who has been an active part of the #pblitchat community since the initial stages.
Chloe is a sessional academic and PhD candidate investigating creativity in the production of Australian children’s picture books. She brings a wealth of knowledge about the Australian publishing industry to the #pblitchat discussions.

Thankyou all, so much, for setting up a chat for picture books only.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t join in today, (I was having a photo shoot with my new book, The Glasshouse, written by Paul Collins and illustrated by me, Jo Thompson) but I look forward to joining in next week.
Congratulations to you all for finding a way to bring picture book people together.
Well done.
I’m coming up to the CYA conference this year, will you be there? I’d love to say hello and chat in person.
Kat, I was so excited for you when I saw ‘This is the mud’ on the shelves of my local bookstore in Melbourne.
Thanks again for getting the chatter started. Will you be chattering about illustrating picture books as well?
Talk soon
Jo Thompson: Create a Kids’ Book.
Hi Jo
I’m so glad you found us! Your new book sounds wonderful – I’ll certainly keep an eye out for it. Is it published by Ford St? Unfortunately I won’t be at CYA during the day on Saturday but plan to join everyone for the evening and am volunteering at the Hatchlings program on Sunday. It would be great to meet you!
As for illustrating, it’s certainly something we’d love to cover and we do have a few illustrators on board. Perhaps you’d be able to be a special guest for us one day and share your knowledge and experiences??
Would love to see you at the chat whenever you can manage to find the time. It really is a wonderful and supportive group of people from all around the world and is so much fun!
Take care
Karen
Oh that is so cool, Jo. Thanks for sharing!! (Muddy bookshop.)
Yes, I will be at the CYA this year. I’m doing the chatter chatter thing on the Saturday (and learning heaps too, of course!) and taking a Hatchlings session on the Sunday which will be fun.
Congrats on your fun day! A photo shoot. WOW!
#pblitchat is for authors AND illustrators – and everyone involved in the picture book process. If you have a specific topic you’d like to see discussed, we’d love to hear it. (We only do short-term topic plans so that we can flex with needs, etc.)
Thanks for commenting.
