Transcript 20 Sept – Dark PBs; Talking Wild Things

20 09 2011

Yay and hurray – the transcript WORKED!

This week on #pblitchat we discussed this article – an interview with Maruice Sendak – author of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2011/sep/19/childrens-books-not-wild-maurice-sendak

So we asked… Are children’s books too wild? Not wild enough? Do dark stories have their place? Are we over-protecting, even crippling our children if we limit the wild things? How do your children respond to dark PBs?

You can read more of this fantastic chat here; pblitchat—Wild-Things!

** For some reason, I see two of my ‘follow-on’ tweets were missing, so I will include them here in the interest of making sense. :\

When my dog-loving son was young, I grabbed ‘My Dog’ on it’s cover alone, for him. It’s billed ‘Junior Fiction’. >> #pblitchat

>> By JohnHeffernan/AndrewMcLean, it has a warm/cute cover pic – boy cuddling dog. He started… Didn’t like it one bit. #pblitchat

When I flicked through, I can see why he was disturbed. He was too sensitive for that book. And there wasn’t much hope. #sad :’( #pblitchat.

And finally, apologies for the missing transcript last week. For some reason no-one had any success retrieving it. Every attempt came up with zero tweets.
